To our public safety brothers and sisters from the Emergency Response side of the house, the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grants opened December 26, 2017, and will remain open through February 2, 2018.
Administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), AFG grants provide fire departments with funding for critically needed equipment, protective gear, training and other resources needed for safe and effective public safety services. The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services organizations, and State Fire Training Academies.
This funding is for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.
FEMA and IAFF Websites have great information to help those departments applying for a grant, but if you need any assistance, or guidance on your training, equipment or gear selection, the Academy staff can help. To reach out to one of our maritime Subject Matter Experts, you can click here.
